At first, it wasn't clear how the pull out (clear) try worked, but there are two little tabs on the device that the pull out tray slides up through, after setting it ontop of the spring loaded part inside the card collector area. Also, this takes 4 C batteries, and make sure you use name-brand, otherwise, the shuffling motors are a bit weak. On mine in particular, you really have to use two thumbs and push down on the shuffling lever to get a good shuffle, otherwise it can go slow and you are more likely to get bad card feeds into the collector area. These are really minor issues compared to what you're getting for the price. I'm still very happy with the product and it does as it should.
